The Oba of Ado and/or the Olofin of Ado-Odo is a Distinct Monarch
THE OBA OF ADO AND/OR THE OLOFIN OF ADO ODO IS A DISTINCT MONARCH .The Ado Kingdom Princes and Princesses and other aggrieved interests groups have met on ranging controversies on the Obaship institution as it affects other neighbouring communities .Our people are unhappy and as well fuming with anger.Having waited for retraction in vain,we humbly believe as law abiding citizens to stoutly defend the OLOFIN ADIMULA ODUA HERITAGE without fear or favour for posterity ..Delay defeats Equity and we hereby exhibit vigilance having listened to the narratives by one of our revered monarchs ,HRM ,Oba Prof,OBALANLEGE ,Abdul Kabir Adeyemi ,Lanlege Ekun 11,the Olota of Ota Kingdom ,Aworiland ,Ogun State is known for his erudition, as a seasoned scholar . However,we are uncomfortable in Ado Kingdom, battered and. bruised with unpleasant stories demystifying the institution of Olofin Having being pushed to the brick wall and fantasies that will not further relegate the Olofin stool forever .The Sword of Damocles arising from the subtle attacks on Olofin set up will further throw us into bondage and servitude. We say no to historical perfidy that Ado is under Ota outside the local government structure of Ota as the statutory seat ..We came to the following irresistible conclusions .as our right of reply or else ,we bury our unique history since 1050AD in ahistorical development,a subtle disservice to us and forebears .We deny the the concept of three Awori Kingdoms with the Akran of Badagry ,,Eko Group and the Olota as the Arrowhead is a clear distortion of age-long Yoruba History and Customs. With profound respect to our foremost historian ,Prof(Senator) .Banji Akintoye ., it is very unheard and strange that any previous Olota including the present Olota of Ota exercised and/or exercises traditional authority whether as a consenting or prescribed authority over Ado Kingdom ,one of the foremost Awori enclaves We humbly commend the Olota of Ota,HRM Oba Abdul Kabir Adeyemi OBALANLEGE ,a distinguished Professor in Communication studies to read Ola Avoseh Book ,The History of Badagry ,1938 ,where ,he posited that Badagry had a decentralised polity that administered Eight Quarters with Akran ,,an emigre to Badagry from Togo or Ghana axis that joined other seven Quarters Chiefs in Badagry It is not a strange thing migrating in history .On the 7th July ,1863 the Akran as a Quarter Chief signed the Treaty of Badagry along with the other seven quarters chiefs as Primus Inter Peres and not as the Oba of Badagry .This situation we read in historical narratives continued until 1951 that the Action Group led Government by the late sage Chief Obatemi Awolowo formally installed Chief Dosa Akran as the Oba of Badagry .See Prof .A.I Asiwaju seasoned historical updates on Western District of Badagry,Ado ,Ilaro ,Ikoga Zebbe ,,Egbado communities as an unrivaled authority on Western Yoruba areas. His critical article entitled "The Aja Speaking Peoples of Nigeria :A Note on their Origins,Settlement and Cultural Adaptation Up to 1946" in the Journal of the International Affairs ,Vol.49, No.11979,1979 further alluded to details on Ajas including Eguns now called Ogus in contemporary Nigerian history .Recently ,an Ota High Court delivered judgments in HCA/17/2012 between CHIEF SAMUEL AGOGO V JIMO AKINOLA with the Olofin of Ado Odo as the second defendant and the case of HUNNO J.D KURUYO and 6 Ors V BENEDICT A ADEKUNLE and 14 Ors in Suit HCA 19/2009 on Idoleyin and other adjoining villages now a pending Appeal case all restated that the position of Chief AKRAN as a quarter Chief was lesser and inferior to the Oba of Ado .That he had no traditional authority to have installed any Chief or Baale in Ado Odo Kingdom in pre colonial ,colonial and post colonial eras till date .Take .note that the OLOVEE of Addo Kingdom known as Ado had been traditionally and historically ,an independent monarch who needed no approval of any other monarch to be installed as an Oba for Ado Kingdom .In fact, the Olofin was also addressed as the Olofin of Addo and Erekiti Kingdoms in the past Erekiti is presently in Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos .Bishop Ajayi Crowther in 1840s visited the ODUDUWA Temple ,Ilaje ,Ado Odo when Oba Akintoye ,the Eleko of Eko expressed resentment over inability to join Oduduwa Festival then . The Journal of Nigerian History 1962 quoted Morton Williams ,a social anthropologist in his studies of Trans Atlantic Slave Trade and Oyo tradition 1640 -1830 stated that the AWORI CHIEFDOM was not under the influence of Alafin of Oyo ,see also A I Asiwaju ,1976 ,at pages 36/37 that Ado Kingdom was at no time under Oyo Imperial Control unlike Egba and Dahomean vassal Kingdoms that paid tributes to the Alafin of Oyo .Suffice to say that the 1903 Colony of Lagos Gazette No .9 listed the Oba of Ado also called the OLOFIN at the instance of Ooni of Ife,His Imperial Majesty ,Oba Adelekan Olubuse 1 along with the Awujale,Akarigbo and the four revered Egba monarchs namely the Alake,Olowu,Oloko,Agura in the present Ogun State prior to the evolution of the Nigerian State in 1914. The Oba of Ado that is,the Olofin was listed as to the 4th in hierarchy in the said Gazette during the reign of Oba Asade Awope called Oba Otenibotemole ..The latte r who refused to take to the British order was unjustly banished to Lagos .He got reinstated at the instance of Eko Chiefs and Princes who stood as sureties for him .Why? Because of *pre eminent position of the* Olofin of Ado and nothing else . The Ado Kingdom vehemently disagree with trending viral misinformation that Ado Kingdom was ever a satellite or peripheral whatsoever to the Olota of Ota Kingdom,a sister Awori enclave HRM .Oba Adeteru Iso, the Olofin of Ado and /or Oba of Ado represented Abeokuta at the Western Conference of Chiefs and Obas held in Ijebu Ode during the reign of HRM Oba Adesanya as the Awujale with the Alake of Abeokuta then .The Oba of Ado during the reign of Oba Ogabi Akapo served as the Vice President Western House of Chiefs and later Permanent Chairman,Ogun State Council of Obas for Egbado Traditional Council following creation of Ogun state in 1976 and held the office for years until his demise in 1989,shortly after the creation of Ado Odo /Ota Local Government .The truth needs being stated that the colonial henchmen recognized River Ado in 1889 and the name of the Kingdom till date see The History of Yorubas by Johnson .
